The Los Baños peak and the shorter garden walks, and why Makiling weather turns a trail into mud.

Mount Makiling rises over Los Baños in Laguna. The full peak is a genuine climb through forest, often muddy, with a registered hike that should not be improvised. The shorter walks and gardens near the university side are a different outing and a better match for a mixed group.
Forest rain arrives even when Manila is bright. Start with a cutoff time so you are off the upper trail before a casual afternoon storm. Leeches are part of the wet-season story. Tuck trousers in.
The mountain sits inside a forest reserve associated with the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Registration exists for a reason. Use it.
Makiling can be a day trip from Manila. It should not be an afterthought behind a full morning elsewhere. If the group wants grass and a view more than trees, look at Batulao instead and leave Makiling for a day you can give it.
