When a sea route from Batangas toward Aklan makes sense, and when flying to Caticlan is the calmer plan.

A ferry from Batangas is the romantic route and, on the wrong week, a long one. Roll-on ships and fastcraft toward the Western Visayas exist in seasons, but schedules move with weather, dry dock, and demand. Do not buy a beachfront dinner on the assumption that yesterday’s 8 a.m. sailing still exists.
The sensible use of a ship is a traveller who already refuses a flight, is carrying more luggage than a tricycle wants, or is connecting from a southern Luzon trip and can absorb a buffer night in Calapan, Roxas City, or Caticlan town if the sea is up.
Ask the ticket office four questions before you commit:
- Which port you actually dock at, not the marketing name
- Whether the fare includes a bus bridge across a peninsula
- The latest check-in if you are on a connecting boat to Boracay
- The refund rule when PAGASA raises a gale warning
Flying Manila to Caticlan remains the default for a three-day weekend. The ferry becomes attractive when you want the journey itself and you have a spare day. If you only have a weekend, protect it with a plane and spend the romance on island hopping instead of a terminal bench.
